How to Ease Christmas Anxiety with Natural Remedies

The countdown to Christmas comes earlier and earlier each year. At this time of year, avoiding any mention of Christmas is virtually impossible. It’s important to remember that Christmas stimulates different emotions for each of us.  Some people are excited, children bounce off the walls with joy and anticipation, others become stressed beyond belief, and some dread it. If you’re in the latter camp, then read on. In this article, I’ll explore how to ease Christmas anxiety with natural remedies.

How to Ease Christmas Anxiety with Natural Remedies

Many factors can increase our levels of anxiety at Christmas time. But, thanks to Dr Bach, there are solutions to help you manage.

For struggling or busy parents – Mimulus, Olive and Larch:

Playing Christmas Elves at 11.00 p.m. to keep the little ones happy in the morning – is challenging. Some Mums and Dads feel overwhelmed at this time of year as they want to make Christmas magical for their children. Use Mimulus to combat any fear of disappointment. Olive is also brilliant because it inspires, and we all need a dose of that during the festive season. Finally, there is Larch for the ultra-cautious and worried, which gives you confidence.

For the busy hostess or host – Elm:

If you are expecting guests for Christmas, this can cause additional stress. So many of us give in to the pressure and say we are happy to do Christmas. However, when faced with reality, it can often give rise to total overwhelm. In these situations, Elm is your little helper. It will help alleviate the feeling of drowning in a mire of Christmas food prep. As well as using your remedy, remember that it’s only food! Your guests will undoubtedly eat it and love it, whether you prepare and serve like a 5-star hotel or the local pub. Generally, guests are just grateful to be asked and included.

For the un-social butterflies – Mimulus, Red Chestnut, Aspen and Larch:

A couple of years ago, we may all have experienced the fear of being asked to socialise in uncomfortable situations in the COVID climate. But many of us feel like this anyway. If you suffer from social anxiety and stress, Mimulus can help with those known fears, and Larch is a great confidence giver. If you’re worried about someone else, like a teenage son or daughter, who doesn’t socialise well, Red Chestnut can help you rationalise your fears for your loved ones at this busy time. Finally, Aspen helps with any unknown fears that can creep up on us from time to time.

Easing the financial burden – Walnut, Pine, Impatiens and Cherry Plum:

The expectations of children are always high on the list when it comes to Christmas, and it isn’t always possible to meet them. Finances can be a huge stumbling block at this time of the year. Dealing with the competition and peer pressure between kids to “have” the best is stressful. Sadly, I cannot provide an additional pot of gold, but I can help you navigate the process of making some changes in your life so you don’t give in to unreasonable demands that you’ll struggle to meet. Once you commit to a change in attitude, Walnut will allow you to accept the changes. Use Pine to help alleviate any guilt you may be feeling. Impatiens will help to keep you patient and understanding in difficult situations. Finally, if your emotions start to feel overwhelming, there is Cherry Plum.

As a practical tip, and as a mother and grandmother, I recommend that you begin managing children’s expectations from a young age. You will be amazed at how happy some smaller children can be with a cardboard box and a few small toys.

For the lonely – Night Rescue Remedy and Rescue Remedy:

There are always people who face Christmas alone, some for the first time. You may spend the daytime with family but return to an empty house on Christmas night; this is never easy.  Consider four drops of Night Rescue Remedy to help settle you for the night. In the morning, take some Rescue Remedy – this will hold your nerves steady and allow you to gather your emotions.  It is an excellent pick-me-up and can help in so many ways.

If you know anyone needing company, I encourage you to invite them into your home. They may say no, but they will appreciate the offer.
