A piece of paper saying menopause with the script of Men, the family and menopause

The menopause can affect the whole family

Menopause, men, and the rest of the family

Some of you will read this and think that maybe this week I have lost the plot, whilst others may understand my reasoning and welcome the thoughts.

For those families where there is a lady of an age where menopause maybe possible there is an element of understanding and sympathy needed to come from those around her.

In fact, if you work with women of this age then this post is also for you.  Especially if they are not likely to talk to you about their emotional problems.

At home or in work

The menopause can take place at any time in a woman’s life, but as a general; rule at some point in time after the age of 40 these hormonal changes start to occur.  In this blog I am going to look at the emotional side of life and how life with the woman in the home can change.  Please notice the word “Can” is some cases there is no change and all remains calm.

The biggest thing is the mood swings, the irrationality of situations, arguments being started out of and over nothing, signs of real anger, jealousy, impatience, low moods, times of tearful outbursts for seemingly no reason.

Be flexible

There will also be the times when the lady in the house seems to have lost her reasonable and sensible brain, can’t finish a sentence, forgets what you told her an hour ago and then get frustrated when you shout at her and tell her you told her 10 minutes ago. This is classic brain fog.

There will be the days when concentration will be zero and she will wander off conversations, there could also be a sense of confusion.

So what can you do? And how can I help you?

There are remedies which I can provide you with but there is also advice, in the first instance an element of sympathy and understanding and a large bucket of patience is essential. Don’t tell you know how she feels because you don’t!!

There is no need to be fearful but there are ways to avoid unnecessary confrontation and that includes looking after the house, and doing the best to help so that there is as little irritation as possible.

Being interested in how she may be feeling – this happens to every woman on the planet and what they need is an understanding instead of being made to feel wrong – this is all totally natural and sadly very misunderstood

Remedies that could help you.

I would highly recommend that you keep a bottle of rescue remedy in the house, especially for the children – in this case pastilles.  For the times of peak crisis

For yourselves I would suggest Impatiens to give you a huge dose of patience and understanding – it the frustration out of life.  Beech to stop the critic and intolerance – this is just what you need.  It eases the tension, and the words will come from you in the right order.

Star of Bethlehem – to help you with the shock of the change you are experiencing – if it is your wife or partner you may think you are living with a different woman but your loved one is still there just very unsure at the moment.

Walnut to help you with the change in the house. Aspen to calm your fears – you will not know what is coming next and this is the remedy to help you manage your own emotions and fears.

Elm – if you are feeling slightly overwhelmed by the change within the home environment.  Finally, Gorse – for that sense of despair as to where the love of your life has gone.  She hasn’t gone she will be back soon she just needs time and support to get through this.
