How the Bach Remedies healed the fear of flying ….
In this personal Bach Flower story, I want to tell you how one of my clients came to me because of her fear of flying, little did we know what we were going to find. Ultimately, in the process of healing the fear of flying it also involved healing the trauma of the past. The Bach Flower Remedies helped this lady to process her emotions and enabled us to establish the links to her past. We connected her flying fear with the fear of being sick, which directly related to the sexual abuse she experienced at the age of 10 – 30 years before! She was violently sick then, and this story had never been told before.
The Burden of Past Traumas
Many of us carry the weight of past traumas, grief, and anxieties, we often ignore their impact as we navigate our busy lives. Childhood traumas, especially, can shape our actions and attitudes as we grow older. The Bach Flower remedies can offer a quiet and calming solution to heal and alleviate these burdens.
This story began over a decade ago when a young woman approached me after a talk I did near Chichester. Her fear of flying was crippling, and as her 40th birthday was approaching, and her husband had planned celebratory trips abroad, she desperately wanted to travel that year. However, in the past, the fear had caused her to dig her nails into her husband’s arm during flights causing him unbearable pain. It was very apparent that future flights were going to be very difficult if not impossible.
The client was looking for help with the remedies to overcome the distress, anxiety, and horrendous discomfort that this fear was causing her, and her husband. Also, this would enable them both to be celebrate her birthday in a pleasurable and beautiful way.
The process of healing the trauma
This lady came to see me every two weeks over a period of 6 months, each occasion was an opportunity to discuss her emotions at greater depth. We not only needed to discover how she was feeling but also look to see if we could discover why these feelings arose.
Every 4 weeks she would have a selection of remedies, sometimes they would all change, sometimes we would only change one, this was dependent entirely on her needs, the client always had a maximum of the seven remedies. We initially addressed the simple her fear of flying, I suggested a blend of Bach Flower remedies tailored to her emotions. Mimulus for fear of the known, Aspen for fear of the unknown, Cherry Plum for loss of control, Rock Rose for terror, and Star of Bethlehem for shock were the initial remedies considered. We also used Gorse for the extreme feeling of despair and despondency and her frustrations and impatience with herself and also her impatience with her husband was eased with Impatiens

As sessions progressed, it became evident that her fear was intricately linked to a deeper issue. We talked delicately and gently around the various subjects and in time gradually revealing a link between her fear of flying to a traumatic event from when she was 10 years old.
The turning point came when my client disclosed her feelings of intense nausea and sickness on a flight several years before our meeting. This distressing incident unearthed a suppressed memory of childhood abuse by a family member, followed by severe sickness. The fear of being sick resurfaced during flights, intensifying her fear of flying – it was a pain she could no longer bear.
We then quietly embarked on a months-long journey together, addressing not only the fear of flying but also the deeply rooted trauma. With each session, we explored the events before, during, and after the abuse. The client’s stories, previously unspoken, were shared, accompanied by lots of tissues and cups of tea. A variety of Bach Flower remedies were incorporated step by step.
The Triumph of Healing the fear and the past trauma.
After eight months of dedication, my client’s transformation became evident. She visited a local airport without fear or anxiety, watching planes take off without any distress. This remarkable progress marked a huge turning point, signifying the healing journey she had undertaken.
As the story concludes, the client’s heartfelt gratitude echoed through her final visit to see me. With emotions running high, she thanked me “giving her a new life”. Remarkably, she has since flown around the world without any hindrance from her once-debilitating fear.
The amazing power of Bach Flower remedies shines through this personal journey, revealing their capacity to heal not only surface-level fears but also the deep-seated traumas that were underneath them. This story serves as a testament to the transformative potential of these gentle remedies, offering individuals a chance to release their emotional burdens and embrace a future free from the chains of the past.
