National Rescue Dog Day is a time to reflect on the rescue dogs that can also benefit from Bach Flower Remedies.
Bach Flower remedies can help your rescue dog – or other sensitive pets in the same way as they help us. Very often sadly a Rescue animal will come to a new and loving home with scars of previous experiences. These can be lived out easily by our pets and its good to treat them kindly and with love so we can enjoy our pets in a relaxed way.
There are many things that can upset our animals, loss of its owners, changes of homes, loss of a soulmate, aggressive behaviour, trips to the vet, separation anxiety and much much more. It isn’t just Fireworks alone it can be any sudden or loud noise that causes the pets to be startled, this can then set off a fear, if it is a dog or a cat then this can be controlled within the house, however if it is a horse or pony then this can be slightly more difficult.

How can the remedies help my dog
Dr Bach made the remedies to help animals suffering from fear and terror and the remedies that I am going to mention below are very relevant to help you and I can make up a blend to specifically help them adding in others where appropriate.
Rock Rose – is my first this is the remedy for terror – it is the fright and flight mode and especially when looking at horses it is really needed to help reduce the instant flight and panic, it is a calmer to reduce the adrenalin rush and is a hugely supportive remedy. It can help to stop your horse from bolting around their fields and also to keep your pets calm at home as well. If your cat is out on bonfire night, I would like to think it could stop your cat from running into the road in terror.
Aspen – for the fear of the unknown, the animals will not know anything about what is happening to them, so it is a total unknown and therefore the result of taking this is take away the surprise and panic and fear.
Mimulus – for fear of the known – if your pet is naturally fearful of loud noises and possibly aggressive handling and this remedy will help them to calm down and feel quieter and more relaxed.
Star of Bethlehem – a key part of Rescue Remedy – to help with shock and the adrenalin release, an amazing remedy to take away the fear and trauma relating to bangs and loud noises – this will also create an instant calming effect.
Walnut – is the remedy for change and will help the animal to settle and recover from the changes of environment – often kennels where they may have been can be traumatic in themselves and we need to allow them to relax after that experience.
The results of the remedies – Bach Flower remedies can definitely help your rescue dog.
In an ideal world you should be giving these remedies to your animals today if they are showing signs of anxiety– I blend them all into one bottle and they can be taken over the next month. You can also then top up the help with the Rescue Remedy
There may well be something else that is needed and if so, we can discuss it – but please don’t leave you pet to suffer at this difficult time – give me a call 07739775783
